Woking Football Club have parted company with manager Anthony Limbrick during his first season in charge.

The ex-Southampton coach lost seven of his last nine games, as the Cards sit just two spots above the relegation zone.

Club legend, Geoff Chapple will take over for the rest of the season, overseeing all football related matters alongside Jason Goodliffe.

Limbrick, who has worked alongside the likes of Mauricio Pochettino and Ronald Koeman in previous roles, was appointed as Woking boss in May 2017.

In his first press conference ahead of the 2017/18 season, the Australian announced a three year promotion plan to elevate the club to the football league.

After a promising start to the campaign, including an opening win against Gateshead, life under Limbrick looked promising. He even took them to the second round of the FA Cup.

But form started to drop off and Woking, now in 19th place in the Vanarama National League, find themselves in a relegation scrap.

In a statement upon his departure, Limbrick said: "I would like to place on record my sincere thanks to the Board, staff and players at Woking Football Club.

"The hard work and brilliant support I have received during my time as Manager I will always be grateful for.

"Last but not least the fans - I appreciated your passion and dedication to the team and also towards myself that you showed throughout my time at the club."

Meanwhile in a separate statement, Woking FC Chair, Rosemary Johnson said: "Woking Football Club has parted company with Manager Anthony Limbrick, with immediate effect.

"We would like to thank Anthony for his hard work, passion and commitment, and wish him well in his future career.

"Geoff Chapple will oversee all football related matters for our remaining matches this season, working alongside Jason Goodliffe.

"They will have access to whatever support they require.

"The club will not be making any further statements or comments at this time."

Woking's next match is on Saturday 7 April away to Dagenham & Redbridge.
