Away victory for Flames against Coventry Blaze

Published at 11:04am 5th February 2018. (Updated at 11:13am 5th February 2018)

Last night's away match against Coventry resulted in a 7-4 win for Guildford Flames.

The Flames jumped to an early lead with an opening goal from John Dunbar 5 minutes into the game.

Two more goals in the 1st period had them in a 3-0 lead at the break.

They reached 4 points ahead in the second period, but seconds later Brett Robinson put Blaze on the scoreboard.

Another goal from the Blaze soon cut their deficit to 2 points - however Dunbar's second goal of the night maintained the Flames' early lead with 5-2.

Just over halfway through the frame, Coventry's Jordan Pietrus made it a 2 goal difference once again, but a third goal from Dunbar gave the team an extra advantage.

Rhett Rachinski brought the Flames to 7 points shortly after Dunbar - the game ended with a final Blaze reply by Galan Patterson, however it was still not enough and the Flames were left with a 7-4 win.

Head Coach Paul Dixon says the early lead put them at a great advantage.

He said: "You are always going to win a lot of games in which you are able to get well out in front early in the contest."

He added: "We were the better team in the 1st and 3rd period, but Coventry took it to us a bit in the 2nd and they turned a tough situation for them into a much tighter evening to start the 3rd."
