Flames beaten by Milton Keynes on penalties

Guildford Flames were beaten on penalties on Wednesday night after a closely fought match against Milton Keynes Lightning.

“It’s like we are in the movie Groundhog Day every time we play Milton Keynes,” said Head Coach Paul Dixon whose side took the lead in the first period.

Shortly after a Milton Keynes equaliser in the second, the Flames once again took the lead this time through Rhett Rachinski.

However Lightning forced penalties after an equaliser in the third.

Milton Keynes were one better in the shootout to collect a 3-2 win.

Head Coach Paul Dixon said: “We will always take a point when we can get it, because we definitely did enough to earn that, but it is deflating to go out of their again without getting all the way over the hurdle.

“We can look back and say there is no reason why we couldn’t have come out on top, so we have to be careful to stay upbeat and continue to keep an eye on the process which so far we are pretty pleased with overall.”
