Rachinski hat-trick helps Flames beat table toppers Manchester

A Rhett Rachinski first period hat-trick helped Guildford Flames edge a 6-4 win over league leaders Manchester Storm on Sunday.

The Flames burst into the game scoring early on - at one point they lead Storm 5-0.

Manchester managed to pull things back a bit, mainly during a furious final six minutes where they netted three times.

But it wasn't enough to beat paul Dixon's side on the night, who said: "Even though we had the early lead, and despite the goal sequence throughout the night, we really were better later in the game than at the start.

"We had a bit of good fortune and converted pretty much every opportunity in the early part of the game, and that was the difference in the evening.

"For any team, getting behind that early by that many goals is a hard mountain to climb the rest of the way, but by no means did we outclass them 4-0 in that period if you looked at overall play. Between the scoring and a good period, and good night, by Chris in net, we were obviously at a great advantage the rest of the way once we had that kind of lead."

"Storm have some very skilled players.  They are not at the top of the table by accident, so from that standpoint it is a good credit to our guys for securing a win against a team of that quality, and we should feel good about this bit of success."

This came following a loss in the league to Belfast on Friday night.

The Flames were beaten 5-4 away in Northern Ireland.
