Aldershot remain top but left frustrated

Published at 4:07pm 16th August 2017.

Aldershot remain unbeaten but were left frustrated after a 1-1 draw away to Maidstone United.

The defences were on top in the early stages of the match as Maidstone keeper Lee Worgan produced a number of impressive saves to keep the league leaders out.

The second half continued as the first half finishes, with both goalkeepers putting in fine performances. Jake Cole did well to tip a free-kick over the crossbar and then saving from close range to keep the scores goalless.

Jim Kellermann rattled an effort against the crossbar after a well timed pass into the box from James Rowe

Jake Gallagher was then introduced on 73 minutes, and it only took the substitute two minutes to make his mark as his shot found the bottom corner of the Maidstone net to give the league leaders the lead.

The game was then a frantic one as there were chances for both sides, with the home side taking there's right at the death.

A 95th minute corner, saw Maidstone turn the ball into the Aldershot net as Josh Hare's touch hit the post and agonisingly crept across the line to see the shot's lose their 100% record in the National League.

They do still remain top of the table, although they now have Sutton United and Dover hot on their tales, only a point behind.

The Shots travel to Boreham Wood in what will prove to be one of their toughest challenges yet, as the hosts are currently sat 6th in the table.

ATFC: Cole; Alexander, de Havilland, Reynolds, Arnold, Oyeleke, Kellermann (Gallagher 73); Fenelon, Rowe, BJ Taylor (Arthur 85); McClure (Okojie 73). Subs not used: Lyons-Foster, Smith

Attendence: 2524
