Hartley Wintney FC to take on biggest challenge yet

Published at 6:00am 12th August 2017.

Hartley Wintney Football Club will take on their hardest challenge yet this season, competing in the Evo-Stik Southern League.

The club has never made it to this level before and face their first test this afternoon (12 August) against Northwood.

The Hampshire side have had a positive pre-season, winning five of their seven friendlies.

First team head coach Luke Tuffs told Eagle he thinks the side have prepared well.: "We've had a few friendlies against a few Conference South and Rymans Premier clubs to prepare for a higher level.

"It's going to be nothing like what we've played before, we had a few good cup runs against teams like this but to be playing them in the league is obviously going to be very exciting.

"I'd like to fancy our chances, I think we've got a very strong squad.

"It will be very exciting for everyone, the players will certainly be on adrenaline for the first few games which I hope will see us through."

The games will come thick and fast for Wintney this month, they've got five games over the next 16 days.

They'll be hoping they can carry on their strong form from last season, when they dominated the Combined Counties League Premier Decision.

Over 44 games they racked up 111 points, winning 35 times, drawing 6 and losing 3.

Today's match against Northwood kicks off at 15:00.
