Aldershot Town to launch new Foundation for local community

Published at 1:46pm 4th July 2017.

Aldershot Town Football Club is launching a new community Foundation that will work with every local charity and community group in the area.

According to the club, it has an aim to raise aspirations and inspire all members of the community.

'The Foundation' will promote active and healthy lifestyles and allow as many people as possible to get involved in football.

Its official launch will be at the EBB Stadium on Friday 28 July, as the The Shots take on AFC Wimbledon in a pre-season friendly.

The new Foundation aims to help people in Rushmoor who live in some of the most disadvantaged areas to improve standards in education, health and mental wellbeing.

Janice Samuels has been appointed as Chairwoman and said: “We will raise aspirations, provide opportunities and embrace the diversity of our community through the medium of sport.”

“The Club already has some very clear commitments to its corporate social responsibility obligations and the Foundation will represent the Club in the community.

“I have a passion for seeing people strive to be the best that they can be.

"We want to reach out to as many people as possible, from all sectors of our community and through as diverse a range of initiatives as possible, to promote inclusion and get everybody working together for the greater good.”

The Foundation has also appointed seven trustees, they are: Aldershot Town Chairman Shahid Azeem, one of the founders of the Buddhist Community Centre UK Major (Retd) Damar Ghale MBE, Commander of Aldershot Garrison Lt Col Nigel MacGregor, Founder and Managing Director of the Community Matters Partnership Tracy Jarvis, Eagle Radio Managing Director Paul Marcus and elected member of Rushmoor Borough Council Maurice Sheehan.
