Woking Football in the Community rewarded for local schools project

Woking Football in the Community has been rewarded for its local schools project "Maths of the Day".

The scheme came out winners in the Best School Project at the Annual Congress held at Celtic Manor.

Launched this year, Maths of the Day brings together local school children to take part in football-based maths activities throughout the day.

Some of these include multiplication using various sports activities, adding and subtracting using top trumps with first team players key stats and the measuring of the football pitch and dugout areas.

The project was launched with support from SJB secondary school and six local primary schools.

Woking Football in the Community said: "We are delighted to win this award and would like to thank our partner schools and The National League Trust for the support they provide throughout the year."

The scheme was formally launched in 2004 and has the aim of 'consolidating and growing the interface between the Club and the local community.'

In January this year, 48 children took part in 'Maths of the Day' at the Laithwaite Community Stadium.

Anna del Vecchio, Maths Hub and Teaching School Manager said: "We have asked the children for their feedback, one response received already:

"I just wanted to say a huge thank you for yesterday. I thought the event was superb.

"All the children looked thoroughly engaged.

"Thank you so much for having the lads involved. All the teachers said they were excellent and we would be grateful if you could pass our thanks to the boys."
