Ben Campbell returns to Guildford Flames as club sign to top level

Published at 1:32pm 31st May 2017.

Ben Campbell will get to add to his 239 Elite League games played total after re-signing with the Guildford Flames ice hockey club for their jump to the country’s top level.

The new campaign will be his 8th consecutive term at Spectrum, and his first in the top flight since he arrived in Surrey from Newcastle Vipers at the close of the 2009-2010 campaign.

“I'm really happy to be back at the flames for the forthcoming season and playing in front of great fans for another year.

"I'm excited to be here at the start of this new chapter in the flames history and play in the top flight of British hockey again”

The 30 year old forward made 61 starts this past season while leading the club in scoring with a career high 39 goals and 76 points.

He has been a part of 7 trophies during his Guildford stay including the 2015-2016 Cup-Playoff “Double”; back to back League and Cup titles across 2011-2012 and 2012-2013; and a playoff championship during his first campaign with the club in 2010-2011.

The 5’10”, 170lbs skater is just one game shy of 400 at Flames and sits 15th on the club’s all-time points list with 140 goals and 329 points.

“Ben certainly outdid himself in terms of putting up unprecedented personal numbers offensively,” said Head Coach Paul Dixon.

“Of course, we don’t expect that kind of offensive showing in the Elite League, but Ben more than earned the opportunity to be with us for our opening season at the next level.”

“He has terrific speed, and we are going to need that as a feature of our line up in our efforts to stay with some very talented clubs from night to night.

"It is exciting times in terms of bringing in a lot of new faces, but it is fantastic news to return a long standing club contributor to our new line up.”

Prior to signing on with Surrey’s side, Campbell’s 3 seasons at Vipers yielded 27 goals and 66 points.
