Woking FC manager released by club

Published at 9:48pm 4th May 2017.

Woking Football Club manager Garry Hill and assistant Steve Thompson have been released by the club, a day after winning the Surrey Senior Cup.

An update from Woking's website says the club is in negotiation with a new investor, meaning the board are not in a position to offer a new contract to the present management team.

The Cards finished 18th in the Vanarama National League, three points above the relegation zone.

Last night (May 3) Garry Hill's side won the Surrey Senior Cup, beating Merstham in the final 4-0.

A statement from the board reads: "The Board of Woking Football Club is in negotiation with a new investor. We are confident that this investment will secure the long term future of the Club and are about to enter the final stages of these negotiations.

"As a result, the Board are not in a position to offer a new contract to the present management team.

"The supporters, staff, volunteers and Board of Woking FC will never be able to repay the debt we all owe to Garry Hill and Steve Thompson for everything they have achieved since first joining us over six years ago and we thank them profusely for all they have done for us.

"Further announcements will be made in due course."
