Guildford Flames lead playoffs going into round four

Published at 12:58pm 27th March 2017.

The Guildford Flames move on to their fourth round of playoffs following a very successful weekend of matches.

The weekend started with them take down the Sheffield Steeldogs 3-2 on Saturday, with Andrew Hemming scoring the first goal of the night.

Sunday then saw the Flames take the fight to the Peterborough Phantom’s home ice, where they won with a decisive 3-1.

This Wednesday’s match will see them face off against the Telford Tigers, who they’ve already beaten away.

Action kicks off on Spectrum Ice at 8pm.

Head coach Paul Dixon admitted that their match against Sheffield on Saturday wasn't their best.

"It was not a good showing by the club, but we did figure out a way to get a win, and I guess at this time of year that is the most important thing. Having said that, we have to be much better than that, and, indeed, we were much better on Sunday in Peterborough where they have lost very few games all season."

"All around the team it was exactly the response we needed, and it converted to a win that put us in a great spot at the halfway point in the round schedule. We don't have time to pat ourselves on the back though with a huge game on Wednesday night at home to Telford and the closing weekend to follow."

After the first three matches, the round-robin playoff table looks like this:
