EXCLUSIVE: Guildford Flames complete roster with double champion

Published at 9:44am 4th August 2015.

The Guildford Flames have signed a double champion.

Eagle Radio can exclusively reveal defenceman Rupert Quiney has signed.

The 25-year-old, originally from London, spent last year at the Telford Tigers, where he won the League and Cup.

The signing completes the Flames' roster for the new season.

Quiney said: "I'm really happy to be joining Guildford.

"From speaking to former Flames players I know they are a well run club that push to win trophies every year, as well as having one of the best fan bases in the EPL.

"Also for me to have an opportunity to move closer to home and play in front of family and friends made it an easy decision.

"I'm really excited to meet my new teammates and get started."

Head Coach Paul Dixon thinks signing Quiney could be a game-changer for his team: "Rupert is a big body so he adds a bit of a dimension that isn’t always a part of our defensive line up.

"He had a good year with the Tigers last season and we can hopefully benefit from the experience he took from a club that dominated most of the league and had significant winning success.

"From a positional standpoint, Rupert is also able to play defence or forward so he has a versatile element that is a valuable asset.

"We look forward to welcoming him into our locker room and getting him in a Flames uniform."
