It's the hottest day - temperatures soar to 35°C in Heathrow, and it could get hotter

Published by the Eagle Radio News Team at 2:37pm 31st July 2020.

Today is officially the hottest day of the year so far, with temperatures reaching 35°C (95F) in Greater London.

The Met Office tweeted: "It's the hottest day of the year so far..... and the temperature will rise further this afternoon."

According to Farnborough Weather Station, it is 35°C there as well.

However, the soaring temperatures are expected to be short-lived.

The Met Office has issued a thunderstorm warning for this afternoon.

The yellow warning is in force from 4pm until midnight covering Guildford and Woking, as well as North and East Surrey

The Met Office said the storms will be caused by hot air moving in from mainland Europe, some parts of which will be cooler than the UK.

Popular tourist spots across Europe, including Ibiza, Lisbon and Berlin, are expected to reach 33°C (91.4°F), 30°C (86°F) and 25°C (77°F) respectively.
