Woman airlifted to hospital after 'escalator fall' at Guildford Friary Centre

Two people have been injured after reportedly falling down an escalator at the Friary Centre in Guildford.

Both were treated at the scene, with a woman then airlifted to hospital in a serious condition.

A man was taken to the Royal Surrey for further treatment following the incident at the shopping centre yesterday afternoon (7 July).

A spokesperson for South East Coast Ambulance Service said:

“I can confirm that we were called at approximately 1.20pm yesterday (7 July) to the Friary Centre in Guildford to reports two people had suffered a fall down an escalator.

“Ambulance crews attended the scene and were joined at the scene by the air ambulance service. Two people were treated at the scene – a woman and a man.

“The woman was then airlifted to St George’s Hospital in a serious condition.

"The man was taken to Royal Surrey County Hospital for further treatment.”

In a statement The Friary Guildford said:

“An elderly couple suffered a serious, accidental fall at The Friary on Tuesday and were attended by the emergency services.

"Our thoughts are with the couple and their families at this difficult time.”
