The family of a Surrey grandmother who passed away in hospital five days after being attacked from behind have paid tribute to her.

87-year-old Rosemary Hill was a former musician and music teacher from Reigate.

The mother-of-three had recently been widowed.

In a statement Rosemary’s family said:

“Rosemary Hill, formerly Few was a talented musician.

“After a professional career, she taught clarinet at Reigate Grammar School until her retirement and was also involved in the Reigate and Redhill Music Festival.

“She continued to perform with the Surrey Yeomanry Band.

“She had recently been widowed but was looking forward to spending more time with her children, Debbie, Richard and Jonathan and her grand-daughter Nancy”.

A police investigation into the assault in Warren Road, Reigate last month remains ongoing.

Officers are appealing for anyone with information about the incident to call 101, quoting Operation Baritone.
