Charges reinstated today at some council car parks in Surrey

Drivers will need to start paying to use some council car parks in Surrey from today (1 July).

Several councils suspended charges during lockdown but they are now being reinstated in some boroughs, coinciding with a lifting of restrictions.

Guildford, Woking, Waverley and Tandridge have reintroduced tariffs today.

Farnham Road car park in Guildford town centre however will remain free until 1 August to support key workers.

Meanwhile Hart says charges are being considered by the cabinet on Thursday with a recommendation they are reintroduced on 1 August.

It is still free to use council car parks in Rushmoor.  A council spokesperson says no decision has been taken on when they will start charging again.

Mole Valley is bringing back tariffs on 6 July.

Reigate and Banstead is also reinstating charges on 6 July but free parking in their pay and display car parks will continue to be available to NHS staff, care workers and NHS volunteer responders involved in the COVID19 response who have been issued a Surrey County Council permit by their relevant agency.

  • East Hampshire District Council has continued to charge for its car parks throughout the pandemic, however NHS and care workers and some key workers are able to park for free
  • Elmbridge Borough Council is not reinstating charges until further notice
  • Epsom and Ewell Borough Council started charging again on 15 June
  • Guildford Borough Council is reinstating charges today except at Farnham Road car park where tariffs will be reinstated on 31 July
  • Hart District Council says charges are being considered by the cabinet on Thursday with a recommendation they are reintroduced on 1 August
  • Mole Valley District Council is reinstating charges on 6 July
  • Reigate and Banstead Borough Council will be charging again on 6 July.  However it will stay free for NHS staff, care workers and NHS volunteer responders involved in the COVID19 response who have been issued a Surrey County Council permit by their relevant agency.
  • Runnymede Borough Council has not offered free car parking, but people are encouraged to pay by phone if they can to avoid using cash
  • Rushmoor Borough Council continues to suspend parking charges in its car parks and on-street parking
  • Spelthorne Borough Council is continuing to offer free of charge parking to NHS staff and care workers until further notice. All other parking remains chargeable
  • Surrey Heath Borough Council has been offering parking free of charge - an update will be provided later
  • Tandridge District Council is reinstating charges today
  • Waverley Borough Council is reinstating charges today but holders of the Surrey NHS and Care Worker Permit scheme can continue to park free of charge
  • Woking Borough Council is reinstating charges today
