Two weather warnings for parts of Surrey and Hampshire with torrential rain, thunder and lightning forecast

Two yellow Met Office warnings for rain and thunderstorms have been issued for Surrey and Hampshire.

The first goes up tomorrow (17 June) at midday until 9pm, and is for thunderstorms affecting parts of East and North-East Hampshire.

The Met Office warning says "A few places may see thunderstorms causing flooding and disruption" from Wednesday afternoon.

Some areas could get torrential downpours with up to 35 mm rain falling in an hour and possibly 50 mm in 2 to 3 hours in a couple of places, as well as lightning and hail.

The rain and thunderstorms will slowly die out through the evening.

Thunderstorm warning
A thunderstorm alert goes up in parts of North East Hampshire on Wednesday.

On Thursday (18 June) , a rain warning is in place from midday through to 9pm, bringing heavy rain to most of Surrey and North East Hampshire.

The Met Office says we can expect heavy showers and thunderstorms, including the chance of locally torrential downpours in some places, and lightning.

It warns we could get up to 30mm of rain in an hour, and up to 50mm in two hours in a few areas.

Both alerts also warn of  a small chance of fast flowing or deep floodwater causing danger to life."

Transport services could be affected and roads flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions or closures.
