'If your chosen spot is full, go somewhere else' advise Surrey Police

Surrey Police are urging people to be flexible when it comes to enjoying the warm weather over the weekend.

They are advising residents not to make 'set in stone plans' as many areas in the county become full very quickly.

Last weekend hundreds of cars turned up at local beauty spots including Frensham Ponds, Virginia Water and the Surrey Hills, the car parks became full, and social distancing was impossible.

In a post on Facebook Surrey Police told advised residents to stay closer to home when enjoying the sunshine:

"Imagine: You plan to go for a walk; you’ve made yourself a picnic, got the kids out of the house and driven 30 or 40 miles to get to your ideal location - only to find the place is heaving and there is no parking.

"You’ve invested all that time and effort into “the plan”, so you’re tempted to go ahead with it anyway.

"We can’t stop you from travelling for a day’s exercise, but we can ask you to be flexible – if your chosen spot is chocker, go somewhere else.

"That decision will be much easier if you are closer to home, and haven’t made a “solid plan”.

"So, don’t make plans.

"See where the day takes you.

"By all means go out and enjoy the fresh air and sunshine, but “bumble along until you find somewhere nice and quiet” close to home rather than deciding “we are going to this place, and nothing is going to stop me!”
