"Leave the BBQ at home" warn firefighters over risk of wildfires

The Fire Severity Index for Surrey and Hampshire remains at level four this weekend, meaning a high risk of wildfires.

Following a spell of dry weather and no rain forecast in the coming days, when temperatures could reach 24 degrees, firefighters are urging people not to have any fires on heathland or park areas.

In a statement Group Commander Ryan Thurman of Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service said that any winds would cause "rapid fire spread".

He added:

"If you see a fire call 999 immediately and keep away.

"Do not risk yourself or our fire crews unnecessarily."
