Alton man, the world's oldest, dies aged 112

The oldest man in the world who was living in Alton in Hampshire has died aged 112. 

His family say Bob Weighton had cancer.

He took the title of World's Oldest Man in February following the death of a man of the same age in Japan. 

Bob celebrated his 112th birthday on 29 March. 

Bob had lived in Alton since 1969 but he was born on 29 March 1908 in Hull, Yorkshire.

He later lived in Taiwan, Canada and the USA, returning to England in 1946 with his wife Agnes and three children.

He became a lecturer in mechanical engineering at the City University of London until his retirement in 1973.

He has 10 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

Bob lived through 22 prime ministers, five monarchs and two world wars.
