Wildfire warning re-issued across Surrey

Published by the Eagle Radio News Team at 12:37pm 25th May 2020. (Updated at 5:11pm 25th May 2020)

Surrey Fire & Rescue has re-issued a plea to people to be vigilant as the fire rating goes back up to severe.

Following continual dry weather,  the Fire Severity Index (FSI) has been increased to level four since yesterday (24 May).

It means the risk of wildfires & rapid spread of fire will occur.

The service is urging people who see a fire while out exercising, particularly in commons or forests, to take extra care and call 999 immediately when safe to do so.

We are also warned against lighting bonfires.

There have been reports of crews responding to wildfires across our area throughout the bank holiday weekend.

The outlook for the next week is for the sustained dry and warm weather to continue.
