Coronavirus: Four more deaths at NHS trusts with hospitals in Surrey bringing total to 1,048

Published by the Eagle Radio News Team at 5:59pm 17th May 2020.

A total of 4 more patients being treated at NHS trusts with hospitals in Surrey have died after testing positive for COVID-19.

It means there have now been 1,048 confirmed deaths relating to coronavirus at the trusts with hospitals in the county.

It is not clear exactly how many of those deaths have been in Surrey, as some of the trusts also have other sites based outside of the county. NHS England only publishes figures for deaths by hospital trust.

Across England 90 more people have died in hospital after contracting the virus, bringing the total to 24,617.

In a statement NHS England said:

"A further 90* people, who tested positive for the Coronavirus (Covid-19) have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 24,617.

"Patients were aged between 45 and 100 years old. One of the 90 patients had no known underlying health condition.

"Their families have been informed."

*The Covid Patient Notification System did not operate for a period of time on Saturday 16 May. The consequences of this situation may therefore be reflected in the number of deaths reported today by NHS England and NHS Improvement.

Figures for those having recovered from coronavirus in the UK have not been made available.

In our area, Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust recorded an increase of two deaths,

The Royal Surrey recorded an increase of one.

There was no change at Ashford and St Peter's Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust, Royal Surrey County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Nuffield Health Woking and Central Surrey Health (Woking Community Hospital).
