More trains running across Surrey and Hampshire from today

South Western Railway has increased services for Surrey and Hampshire today (18 May), along with rail operators across the country.

The move is to support more people returning to work amidst the coronavirus pandemic.

But commuters are warned that  passenger numbers will be restricted due to social distancing measures.

A spokesperson for SWR said:

"South Western Railway along with the rest of the rail industry will be providing a number of additional services from Monday (18 May) to support customers during the next phase of the coronavirus response.

"Social distancing means space will still be extremely limited so only those who have no other option should use our trains."

If passengers do need to travel they should:

  • Plan ahead – avoid peak travel, check before you travel, buy tickets online on mobile or on smartcard
  • Consider others – passengers are advised to wear a face covering, respect staff, be considerate to those less able
  • Stay safe – maintain social distancing where possible, use hand sanitiser and wash hands frequently, pay contactless where possible

SWR says it is doing the following to help keep passengers safe:

  • Cleaning stations and trains throughout the day, every day
  • Managing capacity on trains and in stations
  • Placing markings and signage to help you get aroun.
