Farnham churches appeal for material to make scrubs for NHS

Published by Laura Scardarella at 12:59pm 27th April 2020.

Churches in North Farnham are making scrubs, hats and bags with donated material for staff at Frimley Park Hospital.

With 100 volunteers offering their help across Farnham, the Anglican Parish of Badshot Lea and Hale have been working hard to ensure the NHS get the support they need.

People are being asked to donate old pillows, sheets and duvet covers to be remade into scrubs for the staff at Frimley Park Hospital.

Those who are able to sew themselves can also create their own.

Anne Young, a parishioner from St John's Church, Hale, has offered for volunteers to pick up the finished products from her porch where they can then deliver them to Frimley Park Hospital.

She has advised that when the items have been made, they need to be washed at 60 degrees, dried and put in a bag with the date on them:

"The person who picks them up then keeps them for at least three days to ensure that there is no risk of the virus being on them before taking them to NHS.

"Pillowcases are particularly good for making the bags.

"The only thing is please don’t use elastic as they are washed so often at a high temperature that they don’t last."

The Facebook page 'Scrub Hub - Making Scrubs for Frimley Park Hospital' was created to keep volunteers up to date with their donations and to show the work that has been produced and delivered to the NHS.

Becky Salveson, who helps run the 'Scrub Hub' Facebook page, said:

"We are totally overwhelmed by everyone’s generosity it terms of donations and help.

"We have a feeling of real community spirit and feel like the team are the modern day land girls stepping up to help those at the forefront of this battle to keep going."
