The body of a dog has been found dumped amongst fly-tipped rubbish in Cranleigh.

It was discovered by Waverley Borough Council environmental enforcement officers on Somersbury Lane last week.

In a post on Facebook the council have asked anyone with information about the incident to come forward.

The dog, which has been described as brown with a pink collar, was found inside a plastic bag alongside a large pile of discarded items including a BBQ and several wetsuits.

The animal was microchipped and registered but with no name or address.

Waverley Borough Council is reminding residents that they are required to take reasonable steps to check that people who are removing waste from their property are licensed to do so.:

"If this is your rubbish and you paid someone to remove it for you, please get in touch with us so we can pursue action against the offender.

"If you have information about this fly-tip or other flytipping in Waverley, please contact our Environmental Services team on 01483 523524"
