Surrey parent dials 999 after child 'wouldn't turn off games console'

Published by the Eagle Radio News Team at 2:36pm 15th April 2020.

Surrey Police have issued a reminder about only using 999 in an emergency after a parent called the number because of their child's games console use.

Officers, who have been facing additional pressures because of the coronavirus outbreak, said it did not constitute an emergency as there were no threats of violence or verbal abuse.

The call was received by Surrey Police within "the last 72 hours", with the parent dialling the emergency line "because their child would not turn off their games console".

In a statement on Facebook the force urged people to "think about how you use the 999 system".
