Sunshine forecast for Surrey and Hampshire during Easter weekend

Published by the Eagle Radio News Team at 11:59am 9th April 2020. (Updated at 12:02pm 9th April 2020)

We are being advised to make the most of the warm weather over the next couple of days before cooler weather sets in next week - but remembering to observe the government guidelines and stay at home.

The Met Office says Surrey and Hampshire can expect temperatures in the region of highs of 24 °C today and tomorrow, as well as highs in the early 20s on Saturday.

It will also be fine and dry, although by Sunday we could get some heavy showers.

On Easter Monday, however, it is turning cloudier and cooler with temperatures in the mid teens.

Met Office Chief Meteorologist, Frank Saunders, has this summary of the long weekend's forecast:

"The Easter weekend starts dry and warm for many with temperatures possibly reaching as high as 24C in parts of London and the South East on Bank Holiday Friday and Saturday also.

"As the weekend continues there is an increasing risk of showers, some of which could be heavy or thundery.

"By the start of next week, although it will be drier and sunnier again it will definitely feel cooler with temperatures reaching the mid-teens at best."

The Met Office reiterates the current government restrictions, saying "Whatever the weather over the long holiday weekend we are all being urged to remember the Government Coronavirus guidelines to stay at home:

"Do not go out to meet others, even friends or family, as it is possible to spread the virus even if you don’t have symptoms.

"Only go outside for food, health reasons or work (but only if you cannot work from home), always stay 2 metres (6ft) away from other people and wash your hands as soon as you return home."

Surrey and Hampshire's five day forecast:

A dry day in store across the region with long sunny spells. Warm or very warm in many parts, but an onshore breeze will keep coastal parts cooler. Maximum temperature 24 °C.

Staying dry across the region this evening and overnight with some clear spells, and with light east or southeasterly winds. Minimum temperature 6 °C.

A generally dry day with long spells of sunshine. However, an isolated shower can't be ruled out in the north later. Warm or very warm again away from the coast. Maximum temperature 24 °C.

Outlook for Saturday to Monday:
The weekend warm with bright or sunny spells, but with an increased risk of showers by Sunday, these possibly heavy. Monday rather cloudy and much cooler in a northeast breeze.
