Hundreds of reports of people flouting stay-at-home rules in Surrey

Published by the Eagle Radio News Team at 3:07pm 8th April 2020. (Updated at 3:28pm 8th April 2020)

Police in Surrey have received nearly 280 reports of anti-social behaviour and people not respecting lockdown restrictions since last weekend.

The reports over the past five days include house parties, social gatherings and over 100 people sunbathing at Box Hill in Dorking.

The force says while most people are complying, they have had to enforce the restrictions with a fine or even arrests as a last resort when they have been ignored.

While they say they understand it is frustrating to stay at home, and difficult to keep children entertained, especially in good weather, we should ask ourselves the following:

  • Is that journey really essential?
  • Should I be inviting my friends/family over?
  • If your child is heading out for a ‘walk’ or some ‘exercise’, who are they meeting?
  • What impact are my actions having on my neighbours who are also having to stay inside?

The force has reiterated to the public to stay at home and help the NHS:

"Dealing with these incidents means we could be taking valuable resources away from those that really need our help.

"Help us to help you. Stay home to save lives and protect our NHS."
