Coronavirus: Deaths at Surrey hospital trusts jump by 40 to 285

Published by the Eagle Radio News Team at 2:38pm 7th April 2020.

It has been confirmed that a further 40 patients being treated at NHS trusts with hospitals in Surrey have died after testing positive for COVID-19.

Confirmed deaths relating to coronavirus at the five trusts with hospitals in the county now stand at 285.

It is not clear exactly how many of those deaths have been in Surrey, as some of the trusts also have other sites based outside of the county. NHS England only publishes figures for deaths by hospital trust.

Across England 758 more people have died after contracting the virus, bringing the total to 5,655.

In a statement NHS England said:

"A further 758 people, who tested positive for the Coronavirus (Covid-19) have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 5,655.

"Patients were aged between 23 and 102 years old.

"29 of the 758 patients (aged between 23 and 99 years old) had no known underlying health condition.

"Their families have been informed."

In our area East Surrey Hospital reported 21 more coronavirus patient deaths.

Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust confirmed a further nine people with the virus had died whilst being treated across its sites at Frimley Park Hospital, Wexham Park Hospital in Slough and Heatherwood Hospital in Ascot.

Eight more patients were confirmed to have died at the trust which runs Epsom General Hospital and St Helier Hospital in Sutton.

Meanwhile, there were two more coronavirus related deaths at the Royal Surrey.
