Man arrested as machinery worth thousands found on lorry on A3

Published by the Eagle Radio News Team at 5:50pm 6th April 2020. (Updated at 5:55pm 6th April 2020)

Thousands of pounds worth of what is believed to be stolen machinery has been found on the back of a lorry by Surrey Police.

The Roads Policing Unit stopped the vehicle on the A3 at Ripley on Friday (3 April).

Officers searched the lorry to find tens of thousands of pounds worth of machinery, including:

  • Two mini diggers
  • A bobcat
  • Two quad bikes
  • Four motocross bikes

Police believe these items have been stolen from properties in Surrey, Hampshire and Berkshire.

Officers spotted the HGV at the Ripley junction of the A3 around 5pm and brought the vehicle to a stop.

The driver of the lorry, a man in his 40s, was arrested and has since been released under investigation.

Officers are now continuing to investigate and working to reunite the stolen machinery with the victims involved.

Chief Inspector Michael Hodder of the Surrey and Sussex Roads Policing Unit said:

"This was a fantastic effort by our Roads Policing team.

"We will continue to protect the public, deny criminal use of our roads and recover people’s property."
