University of Surrey show their thanks to staff at Royal Surrey Hospital

Published by Grace Mcgachy at 3:03pm 1st April 2020. (Updated at 1:08pm 20th April 2020)

The University of Surrey is showing its support for frontline workers at the Royal Surrey by giving them access to its office space.

It will allow staff to relocate from their offices, which are currently in high-risk areas of the hospital.

The University has installed network lines in their Leggett Building, giving it a direct connection with the neighbouring hospital.

Royal Surrey staff have also been invited to use more than 200 free car park spaces at Bright Horizons Day Nursery and the Kate Granger Building which is a short walk from the hospital.

Andy Chalklin, Chief Operating Officer from the University of Surrey, said it is just a small gesture of gratitude:

“In comparison to the extraordinary efforts being made and risks faced by NHS workers every day – including many of our own nursing and paramedic students and staff.

"We are in detailed discussions with our partners in other organisations to make available many more of the resources and capabilities of the University to support the effort to combat Covid-19, including plans to offer our world class teaching facilities to train NHS staff and some of our accommodation to house NHS staff close to the hospital.”
