Chessington World of Adventures says it is "proud" to be helping new efforts to test NHS workers for coronavirus.

The Surrey theme park is opening one of its main car parks as a drive-through testing centre.

It is being run by the Department of Health and Social Care and will only be available to NHS staff.

A spokesperson for Chessington said:

"We have worked with the Department for Health & Social Care and other partners, to set up an isolated coronavirus testing area to test NHS workers in one of our main car parks.

"We are proud to be able to offer our assistance to the NHS during this unprecedented time."

Businesses, research centres and universities are helping with efforts to screen health workers, by lending their equipment.

The government said it hopes to have tested the first 800 NHS staff by Monday.

It could mean that doctors, nurses and social care staff, who have been self-isolating, may be able to return to work if they test negative for COVID-19.
