Two patients being treated at Epsom Hospital have died after testing positive for coronavirus.

In a statement the deaths were confirmed by the trust which runs the hospital, as were two further deaths at St Helier Hospital in Sutton.

Both men were in their 90s and had been admitted with underlying health conditions.

There have been a total of 578 deaths in the UK of people who have tested positive for COVID-19, of those 15 have been at hospitals in Surrey.

Chief Executive of Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust, Daniel Elkeles, said:

“Sadly, we can confirm that two men, who were both in their 90s, being cared for at Epsom Hospital, and a woman in her 50s and a woman in her late 90s being cared for at St Helier Hospital have died.

“All patients were admitted with underlying health conditions and subsequently tested positive for COVID-19.

“The families have been informed and our thoughts are with them at this difficult time. We will not be commenting further and ask that everybody respects the families’ privacy.”
