A  man has been pronounced dead after his body was pulled from the River Thames near Chertsey.

Police say they were called to reports of a man being seen on the wrong side of the bridge over the river in Staines on Tuesday evening (24 March) at around 7pm.

Emergency services, including fire and ambulance services, were sent to the scene.

A 62 year old man was pulled from the river near Chertsey shortly afterwards, but despite their efforts paramedics could not save him and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers say his next of kin have been told.

The police are investigating the incident.
