Help for tenants and homeless in Guildford

Published by Lettie Buxton at 4:58pm 23rd March 2020. (Updated at 5:02pm 23rd March 2020)

Help is being given to tenants and the homeless in Guildford amidst the coronavirus crisis.

Guildford Borough Council has said it will "fully help and support residents through this difficult time".

It has confirmed that for council housing tenants, evictions and court action will be suspended until further notice, and support is also available surrounding council tax.

The Borough Council added it is working closely with its partners to support people who are homeless or rough sleeping in Guildford, and will continue to offer emergency assistance and advice.

Residents are encouraged to report anybody who is believed to be rough sleeping by:

  • Contacting the HOST team directly by emailing GuildfordHost@riverside.org.uk or phoning 01483 302495
  • Heading to Streetlink, the national rough sleeper reporting line (an app can also be downloaded) or calling 0300 500 0914.

Lead councillor for housing, homelessness, access and disability, Angela Goodwin said:

"We know many of you are worried how this challenging time will affect your income and even if you will be able to pay your rent.

"We have help and support in place for council housing tenants and can also advise on support for those in private rented accommodation.

"We also continue to work closely with partners to support people who are homeless or rough sleeping in our borough."
