Two more patients being treated in Surrey have died after testing positive for coronavirus, bringing the number of deaths in the county to four.

144 people in the UK have died after testing positive for COVID-19.

Both of the patients in Surrey, a man in his 70s and a woman in her 90s, were admitted to Epsom Hospital with underlying health conditions before testing positive for the virus.

Daniel Elkeles, Chief Executive of Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust said:

“Sadly, we can confirm that a man who was in his 70s died on Monday and a woman in her 90s died on Wednesday at Epsom Hospital.

"Both patients were admitted with underlying health conditions and subsequently tested positive for COVID-19.

“The families have been informed and our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.

"We will not be commenting further and ask that everybody respects the families’ privacy.”

On Monday (16 March) the first death in the county of someone with the virus was confirmed, they were also being treated at Epsom hospital.

The man in his 80s had underlying health conditions, as did a man in his 90s who died at East Surrey Hospital.
