Coronavirus: 99 confirmed cases in Surrey and Hampshire as NHS sets out plans to free up hospitals

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Surrey and Hampshire has risen to 99 as NHS England announced plans to suspend all non-urgent surgery for three months.

All routine surgery will be cancelled by 15 April at the latest in a move aimed at freeing up 30,000 beds in UK hospitals.

The latest figures, released by Public Health England today (17 March), show 69 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Hampshire - the most of any local authority area in England. Surrey has had 30 positive tests

Overall the UK has seen a total of 1,950 recorded cases of the virus – so far 65 of those patients have recovered.

In total, across the UK, 71 people diagnosed with COVID-19 have died - including one at a hospital in Surrey.
