Woman found dead on M25 in Surrey

A woman's body has been found on the M25 in Surrey this morning.

The 36 year old was discovered lying on the carriageway shortly after 6:15am today (29 February), between J8 Reigate and J10 for the Wisley Interchange.

Police say the pedestrian died at the scene.

They think she may have been hit by a vehicle that did not stop.

Her family have been told.

Sergeant Andy Audsley from the Roads Policing Team said they are trying to establish how she came to be injured on the motorway:

"We believe that she may have been involved at some stage in a collision with a vehicle that did not stop at the scene.

"We are asking anyone who saw the woman who was wearing a maroon coat and trousers to call us immediately on 101 quoting P20048965".

Anyone with information should call 101 quoting crime reference P20048965.

The road has been closed since early this morning and will remain shut for investigation work.

A diversion is in place:

Road users prior to the incident are advised to follow the hollow black triangle diversion symbols on road signs.

Exit the M25 at J8 (Reigate Hill Interchange).

At the roundabout take the third exit on ot the A217 towards London.

At the A240 (Burgh Heath) turn left at the traffic signals on to the A240 towards Kingston.

At the A24 (Ewell roundabout) take the third exit on the A24 towards London.

At Organ Crossroads follow the A240 towards Kingston.

At the A3 (Tolworth Interchange) take the first exit at the roundabout on to the A3  towards Portsmouth.

Follow the A3 to the M25 J10 (Wisley Interchange) and take the third exit at the roundabout to rejoin the M25.

Note there is a height restriction of 15ft 3 on the diversion route at Tolworth railway bridge across the A240.
