'Serious police incident' closes M25 in Surrey

The M25 is partly shut in Surrey due to a police incident.

It has been closed on the clockwise side since 6:45am between J8 A217 Brighton Road (Reigate) and J10 A3 (Wisley Interchange).

Traffic was held within the closure from around 6:30am.

Officers describe it as serious.

Highways England describe it as a "police-led incident."

Emergency services are on the scene.

Drivers are being urged to avoid the motorway between J6 - J8 with traffic queues likely.

A diversion is in place:

Road users prior to the incident are advised to follow the hollow black triangle diversion symbols on road signs.

Exit the M25 at J8 (Reigate Hill Interchange).

At the roundabout take the third exit on ot the A217 towards London.

At the A240 (Burgh Heath) turn left at the traffic signals on to the A240 towards Kingston.

At the A24 (Ewell roundabout) take the third exit on the A24 towards London.

At Organ Crossroads follow the A240 towards Kingston.

At the A3 (Tolworth Interchange) take the first exit at the roundabout on to the A3  towards Portsmouth.

Follow the A3 to the M25 J10 (Wisley Interchange) and take the third exit at the roundabout to rejoin the M25.

Note there is a height restriction of 15ft 3 on the diversion route at Tolworth railway bridge across the A240.
