"Mark my darling, come back" begs partner of missing Farnham man

Published by Grace Mcgachy at 5:45am 21st February 2020. (Updated at 6:17am 21st February 2020)

The partner of a Farnham man who has been missing for over three weeks is appealing to him to get in touch.

Surrey Police have been looking for Mark Maclay since his disappearance on the night of 27 January.

The search has included specialist divers who have scoured the River Wey in the town after some of his belongings were left on the river bank.

Gilly Stewart, who is also from Farnham, has known Mark for 30 years.

She says she is extremely worried about him and that his disappearance is out of character:

"He seemed very happy that day, that's why it was a shock.

"Everyone who knows him said he was always happy, smiling and he made people laugh.

"The last thing I said to him was 'go home and I'll see you tomorrow', which I intended to do, we saw each other almost every day, we're like two peas in a pod."

Earlier this month police released CCTV footage of Mark speaking to a man at the Lidl supermarket in Dogflud Way on the night he disappeared.

It also shows the 62 year old walking along East Street in the town centre, before 9pm that same night.

It is believed these are the last sightings of Mark - and the man in Lidl could be the last person he spoke to before his disappearance.

Gilly told Eagle Radio the worst part is not knowing where Mark is or what has happened to him:

"It's that sick feeling in your stomach that you have all the time.

"I see Mark everywhere, I still feel very empty and lost without him.

"Mark my darling, come back, I just want to know you're safe, you're loved by many people.

"Just give me a call, tell me that you're safe, that's all I ask."

Mark is described as:

  • White
  • Around 6ft tall
  • Well-built
  • Balding with white hair
  • wearing a green jacket, jeans and a beige baseball cap and had a backpack with him
