It's been announced that Surrey Heath Borough Councillor Sam Kay has died.

In a statement on Friday (17 December) the council confirmed his death, adding that their "thoughts and condolences are with all Cllr Kay's family and friends at this very difficult time".

Cllr Kay served as a member for the Bagshot Ward after being elected in the local elections in May 2019.

He represented the Liberal Democrat party.

In a statement on Facebook the Surrey Heath Liberal Democrats said the 33-year-old had died at Frimley Park Hospital on 4 January following "a short illness".

They added: "He will be sorely missed for his calm and logical approach to problem-solving, reliability and his immense patience."

He's been described as "a dedicated party activist for many years" and the party extended their sympathies and support to his family and friends.
