Here's how to have your say on the regeneration of Aldershot town centre

Published by the Eagle Radio News Team at 6:00am 16th January 2020.

We're being invited to have our say on the regeneration of Aldershot town centre.

Plans, including new homes, student accommodation and retail/commercial space, are to go on display at two public exhibitions this week.

They cover the area of Union Street from the former Marks and Spencer store down to Wellington Street and through to the High Street.

Signs promising redevelopment have been appearing on the hoardings around empty shops there and earlier this month the town was chosen for the pilot of a government town centre regeneration scheme.

Following the consultation a planning application is expected to be submitted in March, before a final decision is made later in 2020.

The plans will be on display at two public exhibitions this week:

  • Thursday (16 January) from 4pm to 8pm at the Princes Hall in Princes Way.
  • Saturday (18 January) from 10am to 2pm at the Wellington Centre.

The plans are from the Rushmoor Development Partnership (RDP), a joint venture between the Council and development partner Hill Investment Partnerships.

Cllr David Clifford, Leader of Rushmoor Borough Council, said:

“We’re working hard to make our towns a better place to live, work and shop, and whilst we know people feel these plans have been a long time coming I’m pleased and excited that the RDP is now moving ahead with consulting local people on these plans.”
