Severe weather warning for heavy rain across Surrey and Hampshire

Severe weather warning for heavy rain across Surrey and Hampshire

Published by the Eagle Radio News Team at 11:02am 13th January 2020. (Updated at 11:03am 13th January 2020)

A weather warning for heavy rain in Surrey and Hampshire has been issued for tomorrow - just an hour after a wind alert goes up.

The latest yellow warning is in place from 1pm tomorrow (January 14) through to 9am Wednesday (January 15).

It comes soon after a 12 hour wind warning was issued for part of the area, from midday to midnight tomorrow.

The Met Office warns up to 40mm of rain could fall, resulting in flooding:

"Outbreaks of rain will develop on Tuesday afternoon and continue into Wednesday morning.

"The rain will be heavy at times, especially on hills.

"Many places will see 15 to 25 mm of rainfall with some places perhaps seeing 30 to 40 mm.

"This rain falling onto already very wet ground will likely lead to some localised flooding."

We are told to expect:

  • Spray and flooding on roads, which could increase journey times;
  • Bus and train services probably being affected, with journey times taking longer;
  • The likelihood of flooding of a few homes and businesses.
