Man arrested after pedestrian killed in Surrey

A man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, failing to stop at the scene of a collision and failing to report a collision after a hit and run in Surrey.

Following a police appeal, officers today tracked down a vehicle they had been looking for after a man died on the A22 in Whyteleafe.

A 25 year-old man taken into custody has since been released under investigation.

Surrey Police say it relates to an incident on Thursday night (January 9)  at 10:11pm, when they were called to the A22 Godstone Road at the junction with Hillside Road, where a pedestrian was found seriously injured.

The victim, a 30 year-old man from Warlingham, was pronounced dead at the scene.

His family has been informed.
