Man "unwell" after chemical incident in Lightwater

A man is being treated at the scene after an incident in Lightwater which saw officers advising people in the area to keep their windows and doors shut.

Surrey Police say they were called to an address in Farm Lane at around 9am today (December 9), after "reports that the property had been vandalised and a man had been taken unwell."

Specialist officers from Surrey Fire and Rescue Service were also deployed following reports of a strong-smelling substance.

South East Coast Ambulance confirmed they attended the incident.

Earlier this morning, Surrey Police tweeted: "We’re dealing with an incident in conjunction with the Ambulance service - our primary concern is everyone’s wellbeing and that is the advice we’re being given at this stage."

A cordon was put in place, as well as road closures, with the A322 Lightwater Bypass closing completely for several hours.

The southbound side opened before 1pm, before the northbound reopened around an hour later.

A Surrey Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were called to an address in Farm Lane around 9am today.

“Firefighters and specialist officers have been deployed following reports of a strong-smelling substance at the address."
