Retired aircraft engineer from Alton scoops almost £85k in EuroMillions win

A lucky Alton man has made his birthday one to remember after winning an £84,897.80 EuroMillions prize.

He matched the five main numbers and one Lucky Star number in the EuroMillions draw on Friday 15 November 2019.

Retired aircraft engineer Michael Hunter, 62, picked up a Lucky Dip ticket for the draw just days before his birthday.

Michael said: “It’s uncanny, just two weeks ago we’d been chatting about winning the lottery and I’d said that while a big win would be amazing, I’d be very happy with £30,000 to help me move home.

"Now look at me, I’ve got my £30,000 plus another £50K, that’s one seriously life-changing birthday present!”

Michael bought his winning EuroMillions ticket at Morrisons in Aldershot.

He had just finished jet-washing a friend’s patio and was getting cleaned up for some lunch when he discovered his win. Remembering his EuroMillions ticket he checked it on his phone.

He added: "I scanned the ticket and it pinged! I think I was so shocked that I didn’t look at the amount, just ran into my friend’s house and asked her to check the EuroMillions numbers in the paper.

"As she was reading them out I kept saying ‘I’ve got that, and that!’ It was an amazing moment but I still hadn’t worked out what I’d won so, instead of using the app again, I called Camelot who confirmed the exact amount.

"I don’t mind saying I was utterly godsmacked and my friend had to pour herself a glass of wine to steady her nerves!”

With the money now in the bank Michael is hoping to use the money to buy a new home.

He said: “I’ve lived in my two bedroom flat for more than ten years, and while it’s a lovely home I am keen to move back into a house.

"I’ve already had a look online and booked a few viewings so fingers crossed I can be in a new home by early 2020. My 62nd year is definitely shaping up to be a memorable one!

While the house hunt may be progressing at pace, Michael is taking all other future plans a little steadier , adding: “I’m a keen angler so have plenty of time to mull over and gently ponder any other plans by the water’s edge.

"I don’t have any pressing ‘to do’ list but I would like to treat a few people."
