A Shalford woman had to rush from a footbridge at Millmead Lock in Guildford just moments prior to it giving way.

Julie Powell, who is currently pregnant, was out walking with her dog yesterday afternoon (2/11).

The 34-year-old has confirmed both her and the baby are ok.

Julie told Eagle Radio she had been standing on the bridge filming the impressive current when it began to collapse.

She said: "I wasn't really looking at what was happening.

"As the bridge started to go my dog ran, that alerted me that something was wrong.

"I'm really lucky, it was really scary."

Surrey Fire and Rescue were called to the scene by the River Wey at around 2.45pm.

Firefighters said there were no injuries and put a cordon in place, before handing the incident over to the council.
