Man dies in multi-vehicle crash on A31

Published by Carol Musgrave at 5:41am 17th October 2019. (Updated at 12:30pm 17th October 2019)

A moped rider has lost his life in a crash involving four vehicles on the A31.

It happened at Runfold at around 9:35pm last night (October 16) on the eastbound carriageway.

A man on a moped was pronounced dead at the scene.

His family have been told.

No-one else was injured.

Emergency services including fire and ambulance crews were at the scene overnight.

The A31 Farnham bypass was fully closed in both directions overnight and through the morning between the A31 and A331.

The eastbound side - towards Guildford - opened early this afternoon.

The Farnham-bound carriageway opened at around 10:30am but traffic was heavy throughout the area and surrounding roads for much of the morning.

St George's Road which runs over the A31 was also shut between the bridge and the junction with Guildford Road - that has since reopened.

Anyone who witnessed the collision, or a white moped being driven prior to the incident taking place, particularly anyone with any dashcam footage, is asked to contact police as soon as possible on 101, quoting incident reference PR/P19240272.
