Elderly Knaphill couple 'defrauded of life savings'

Published by the Eagle Radio News Team at 1:49pm 21st August 2019.

Police have released CCTV images of a man they would like to speak to in connection with a fraud investigation involving rogue traders.

It's after an elderly Knaphill couple were defrauded of their life savings, when they were overcharged by rogue traders in 2017.

They paid £136,000 for a variety of work in and around their home, which building experts say was valued at just £20,000.

Officers have carried out a number of enquiries across the county and believe the fraud that occurred in Knaphill is connected with another in Bognor Regis in Sussex.

Further investigation suggests that the man featured in the CCTV images may have information that will help with enquiries and the force are keen to speak to him.

Detective Constable Richard Pegden from Surrey Police said:

“I believe this man has vital information in connection with these scams and I am keen to speak to him as soon as possible.

“We are urging the man himself to come forward or anyone who can tell us who he is so we can make further progress with our enquiries.”

The man is described as:

  • White
  • Approximately 5ft 10in tall
  • Average build
  • Shoulder length black hair

Anybody with information is urged to call 101 quoting crime reference number PR/47170143292.
