Anti-social behaviour order issued in Guildford town centre

Anti-social behaviour order issued in Guildford town centre

Published by the Eagle Radio News Team at 5:18pm 19th August 2019.

Police have issued an anti-social behaviour order covering Guildford town centre on Sundays.

The dispersal order under section 35 of the Anti-Social Behaviour Crime and Policing Act 2014 will be active every Sunday between 10am and midnight from 18 August until the end of September.

Additional officers will also be patrolling the area to deter anti-social behaviour and provide reassurance to the community.

Guildford Borough Commander, Inspector Andy Hill said:

“I want to reassure the public that officers are doing everything we can to crack down on the anti-social behaviour in Guildford on Sundays, and it won’t be tolerated.

“There will be an increased number of officers in the centre of town and we will be using the dispersal power where necessary.

“I would like to thank the public for their support and urge them to continue contacting us immediately with any concerns in relation to anti-social behaviour.”

Surrey Police

Under the conditions of the dispersal order, officers can ask a person to leave the designated area and not return for up to 48 hours during the stated times if they have reasonable grounds to suspect that the behaviour of a person in the area has contributed to, or is likely to contribute to, members of the public in the area being alarmed, harassed or distressed, or due to the occurrence in the area of crime and disorder.

Failure to comply with an order to disperse or returning to the area whilst excluded is a criminal offence.

Officers may also return young people under the age of 16 to their homes if they are unsupervised in public places after 9pm.

Anyone with concerns in relation to anti-social behaviour is asked to call Surrey Police on 101 (999 in an emergency), quoting reference PR/P19181277.
